the creation |
The Rickenbacker "Frying Pan" was introduced in 1931 by the Electro-String Instrument Corporation. The original guitar was made out of a single piece of wood and later was cast-aluminum. The guitar was nicknamed the Frying Pan because of its circular body and long handle similar in shape to a frying pan.

technical features |
The guitar is primarily made out of cast-alumnium and has 6 steel strings. The most unique feature was the electromagnetic pickup, which was the first of its kind, and the technology is still used in current-day electric guitars.

The music |
The Rickenbacker "Frying Pan" was originally created to play with blues bands during the 1930s. It then became popular with Spanish-style and Hawaiian-style music.
|
success |
The "Frying Pan" was the first commercially successful electric guitar, mostly due to the popularity of the electromagnetic pick-up. The company, now Rickenbacker International Corporation, continues to thrive and produce electric guitars.
